In a country as diverse and populated as India, hunger remains one of the most heartbreaking yet solvable problems. Millions of people go to sleep on an empty stomach every night, not due to a lack of food globally, but due to the uneven distribution of resources, poverty, and social inequalities. The Daan Foundation, headquartered in Amroha, stands as a beacon of hope in this context. Through its food mission, community kitchen initiatives, and Iftaar distribution drives, it ensures that no one in its reach sleeps hungry.
Our Mission: A Hunger-Free Community
At the heart of Daan Foundation’s work is a simple, powerful belief: “No one should sleep hungry.” This is not just a slogan; it is the core mission that drives our everyday efforts. Our organization works across different communities, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, to provide nutritious and fulfilling meals to those in need.
From daily meal distributions to large-scale Iftaar drives during Ramadan, the Daan Foundation addresses both the immediate and long-term challenges of hunger. Our Community Kitchen Program is one of the most consistent services where fresh, hygienic, and healthy meals are served to the underprivileged, homeless, and low-income families.
Understanding the Gravity of Hunger in India
India is home to more than 1.4 billion people, with millions living below the poverty line. According to the Global Hunger Index 2023, India ranked 111th out of 125 countries, highlighting the severity of the issue. The Daan Foundation aims to counter these statistics by providing sustainable food relief through a grassroots approach.
The majority of people we serve include:
- Daily wage workers
- Orphans
- Widows
- Senior citizens with no family support
- Migrant laborers
- Individuals and families affected by natural or financial crises
What is a Community Kitchen?
A Community Kitchen, often called a “Seva Rasoi” in India, is a social initiative where meals are cooked and served free of cost to those in need. At Daan Foundation, our kitchen in Amroha operates daily, serving hundreds of plates without discrimination.
We maintain strict hygiene standards and nutritional balance in the meals. Our team of volunteers and cooks prepare vegetarian, regionally appropriate meals that include essentials like rice, dal, vegetables, and roti. Special meals are arranged during festivals and fasting periods.
The Spirit of Ramadan: Iftaar for All
Ramadan is a month of fasting, reflection, and giving. For many families, arranging Iftaar daily can be financially stressful. To relieve this burden, Daan Foundation organizes mass Iftaar drives across multiple locations in India, especially in underserved communities.
Our Ramadan food relief efforts include:
- Iftaar stalls in Amroha and other cities (as pilot projects)
- Distribution of Iftaar kits to families
- Collaboration with mosques and local volunteers
- Pre-packaged dates, fruits, biryani, and beverages
Every year, thousands of fasting individuals benefit from our Iftaar drives, making it one of our most impactful seasonal initiatives.
How We Fund Our Work: Zakat, Sadaqah, and Kaffara
Our food initiatives are largely funded through Islamic charitable practices like Zakat, Sadaqah, and Kaffara. These forms of charity, while deeply rooted in Islamic tradition, also reflect universal values of compassion, equality, and human dignity.
- Zakat: A religious obligation that helps uplift the economically weaker sections
- Sadaqah: Voluntary charity that can be given at any time
- Kaffara: Atonement donations that help us feed those in dire need
By targeting donors actively looking for Iftaar donations, charity opportunities, and zakat-based NGOs in India, we attract a wide donor base both nationally and internationally.
Volunteer Power: The Backbone of Our Mission
Volunteers are the soul of Daan Foundation. From cooking to serving, organizing stalls to distributing meals door-to-door, our volunteers are tireless. Many young people join us during their summer breaks, Ramadan holidays, and weekends to contribute their time to a meaningful cause.
We invite more individuals to join our cause — because hunger doesn’t take a holiday.
Digital Donations: Making Giving Easier
We have made it easier than ever to support our food mission. Donors can contribute directly through our website using secure online gateways. Whether someone wants to feed one person or sponsor an entire day of cooking, options are available for all.
We accept donations via:
- UPI
- Net Banking
- Debit/Credit Card

Every rupee counts, and every meal matters.
Success Stories: Impact That Inspires
A widow in Amroha shared that the Iftaar meal she receives is the only proper meal she gets all day. A daily wage worker said our hot lunch gives him the strength to carry on with dignity. Stories like these keep us going.
In 2024 alone, we:
- Served over 2,00,000 meals
- Conducted 150+ Iftaar events
- Distributed 5,000+ ration kits
